Tool fatigue is a real problem in today’s startup tech landscape. In a study performed with three dozen digital agencies, more tha 80% of employees agreed that their daily workflow involved too many tools. In fact, many managers are concerned that they’re spending more in tool management overhead than they are gaining in benefits of these tools. The emerging prevalence of DevOps engineers over the last 10 years is indicative of this.
In this second part of an ongoing series of talks on Project Life Cycles, we tackle the cloud management platform space. Arcane’s Mike Ricotta and Lou Chapman discuss how having too many platforms during a project life cycle can generate higher costs than savings to a company’s workflow. For more info on this, check out our Platform Management Blog Post on project management platform related ideas.
This is the specialized focused item that does this one task best and better than anything else. And that’s really what, you know, what it comes down to. I think that the trend in DevOps is going to be more, you’ve got all these hyper-focused, hyper-specialized tools and it’s going to start transforming more into like, “what can we do that kinda does all of these, but maybe not all of them”. Maybe it does – it helps you with all of them or something like that.
